Sent to the address below.Application submission: Once you have completed the application online, submit the required requested documents* above to the BSNC Shareholder Development department.SUMMARY Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC) is currently seeking a qualified summer extern to work closely with Graphite One, Inc. for an opportunity to work in the field of Environmental or Geology. Under the direction of the department lead, and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the company, and local, state, and federal laws, this externship position performs duties as assigned, which consist of administrative and clerical tasks (or other duties) in support of various programs, executive leaders, managers, and staff.Candidates will spend time at both the Graphite Creek and Nome Camps. All Graphite One (Alaska) Inc camps, including the Nome Camp, are drug and alcohol-free facilities. Graphite One has a zero-tolerance policy for the possession of or job performance under the influence of any drug or alcohol.The positions report to either the Project Manager or the Chief Geologist but will take directions from other project staff and consultants.The position is anticipated to last from mid-June through late September depending on weather conditions. Graphite One will accommodate school schedules as necessary.Work ScheduleThe position will operate 12 hours per day on 20 day on / 10-day off rotation. Alternate schedules may be available. ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESThe Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.Safety * Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) where * Regularly inspect the workplace for safety and housekeeping issues * Evaluate job risks and know how to exercise Stop-Work-Authority until risks are mitigated * Complete Job Hazard Assessments for all work tasks where required * Comply with all Graphite One site safety and company policies and procedures * Participate in daily toolbox / safety meetingsEnvironmental Field Job Responsibilities * Assist project staff and consultants with various environmental tasks such as: ground water sampling, surface water sampling, stream gauging measurements, fish and wildlife studies, cultural studies, meteorological monitoring, and flora / fauna studies. * Complete environmental inspections of various work sites * Assist with administration of the projects Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) * Assist with monitoring permit compliance * Help document drill pad and drill trail reclamation progress * Operate all equipment and perform all work duties in a safe, efficient * Communicate respectfully with all camp employees, contractors, and consultants * Other tasks as assignedGeology Field Job Responsibilities * Assist project staff and consultants with various geology related tasks such as: mapping, sampling, inspecting drills, core logging, core cutting, and sample preparation. * Complete safety inspections of various work sites * Input daily drill information to a tracking spreadsheet * Assist field geologists in laying out drill pad locations * Providing drillers with azimuth and inclination information * Performing field QA/QC checks of drill core * Preparing drill core for transport to Nome * Operate all equipment and perform all work duties in a safe, efficient * Communicate respectfully with all camp employees, contractors, and consultants * Other tasks as assignedQualificationsQUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Applicants must be a BSNC shareholder or shareholder descendant. * Interest in a career path in environmental engineering, environmental science OR geology, geologic engineering, earth sciences, or a related field. * Candidates should enjoy working outdoors * Ability to follow specific procedures and accurately record data * Experience with Microsoft Office software products is beneficial * Ability to read and follow detailed instructions * Willingness to travel by helicopter and occasionally operate ATVs * Willingness to ask questions and get clarification from supervisors * Willingness to alert supervisors to errors and participate in resolving them * Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively throughout the day * Ability to work cooperatively with other employees, contractors, and consultants * Eligible to work in the United StatesKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES * Ability to communicate in English effectively, both orally and in writing. * Ability to understand and follow complex, detailed technical instructions. * Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. * Ability to follow direction as provided by direct supervisor. * Must have a positive, friendly attitude and be a team player.NECESSARY PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasional use of office equipment and exposure to computer screens that may require use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, telephone system, and various outdoor field equipment may be required. The work described herein is primarily a combination of an outdoor environment and modern office setting.
