Metadata StrategiesLibrarian Acquisitions & Metadata.Collections Services & Analysis The Metadata Strategies Librarian will join our Acquisitions andMetadata team in providing essential services to connect ourresearchers and learners with the information resources they needto succeed. Reporting to the Head of Acquisitions and MetadataServices, this position serves a critical role in developing andcontributing policies, standards and services that enhance thediscovery of ASU Librarys extensive collection of print anddigital resources.Working collaboratively with ASU Library staff and communitystakeholders, the Metadata Strategies Librarian will lead effortsto adopt and implement linked data initiatives, maximize the use oftechnology and emerging standards to foster workflow efficiency andinnovation, and coordinate metadata development, transformation,and repurposement projects.The ASU Library is a center of energy, imagination, andinnovation, with nine library facilities across four ASU campuslocations. We provide students and faculty access to millions ofinformation resources, world-class collections, outstanding studyspaces, advanced data centers, and a suite of maker spaces andcreative services. Success atASU is measured not by whom we exclude but rather by whom weinclude and how they succeed.Essential Functions: Leads and coordinates the development of linked data policiesand workflows to enhance access and discovery to the Libraryscollections. Evaluates and implements emerging applications and metadatastandards with the goal of continually improving metadata qualityand fostering workflow efficiency and innovation. Develops and implements metadata remediation and repurposementinitiatives to support current and future discoverabilityobjectives. Gathers and analyzes data with the objective ofenhancing metadata design and production. Creates and manages metadata for print, electronic and digitalresources using Resource Description and Access, MARC, BIBFRAME,linked data, and non-MARC standards. Coordinates metadatatransformation, normalization, and enhancement projects. Utilizes technology to enhance data quality, data management,and interoperability between the librarys current and futuresystems and platforms. Applies scripting and programming expertise to enhanceproduction needs for metadata creation, enhancement, andmaintenance. Collaborates with colleagues in Acquisitions and Metadata,Licensed Collections, Technology Services, Distinctive Collections,Digital Collections Curation, Library Analytics, and other libraryunits to address metadata and discoverability problems, concerns,and questions. Participates in the creation, development, and implementationof unit and team policies and procedures; helps set unit/team goalsand priorities within the framework of the ASU Library goals andpriorities, and assists in the creation, development, andmaintenance of tools and resources used by Acquisitions andMetadata staff. Provides training to staff in Acquisitions and MetadataServices and other library staff. May also directly supervise oneor more staff and/or student employees. Performs and/or manages other responsibilities asassigned. Participates in professional contribution and serviceactivities. Qualifications: Required: Masters degree in Library and Information Science or equivalentfrom an ALA-accredited program by the hire date Knowledge of current and emerging standards, workflows, andbest practices related to discovery, metadata, and/or catalogingservices Preferred: Experience with linked data, Bibframe, and/or RDF Minimum of one year of metadata and/or catalogingexperience Experience with metadata transformation, remediation,normalization, and/or interoperability initiatives Experience with RDA, MARC, non-MARC standards, controlledvocabularies, and/or ontologies. Experience with linked data editors such as Sinopia and/orMarva Experience with developing policies, procedures and/orworkflows Experience with data modeling or similar processes Experience with scripting and/or programming languages Experience working with Alma ILS and/or Primo discoveryservice Experience with adapting to rapid change and demonstratingcreativity and initiative Experience working collaboratively with staff, administrators,and other stakeholders Knowledge of and/or interest in the utilization of artificialintelligence in the library environment Salary and Rank : This is a ContinuingAppointment track Academic Professional position;Assistant/Associate Librarian rank and salary dependent uponexperience.
