Posting Identification Number 37142 Position Description ISP Technical Advisors serve as subject matter experts on various areas of the law impacting the Department's operations and programs. We are looking for a hard:working and self:motivated experienced attorney who is interested in tackling a variety of legal issues to join our legal team. We encourage all qualified applicants Essential Functions:Serves as a Technical Advisor in the Illinois State Police Legal Office; serving as a subject matter expert on legal issues impacting the release of information as it pertains to the operations of the Department, which includes but need not be not limited to privacy, freedom of information, open meetings, and subpoenas. :Completes special projects related to the release of information outside of the Department as delegated by the Chief Legal Counsel or other Senior Command as authorized by the Director.:Assigned special projects may include analysis of existing statutory and regulatory requirements impacting operations within a work unit.:Analyzes policies, practices and procedures as it pertains to statutory mandates and deadlines.:Works independently to recommend and implement operational changes to increase efficiencies and compliance with state and federal law.:Performs legal research and provides legal interpretation on an assigned area of legal expertise, which includes but need not be limited to releasing information outside of the Department to ensure operational compliance with existing law. :Reviews legal sufficiency of forms, documentation, and electronic information on the Department's website or otherwise made available to the public.:Provides legal interpretation in the form of legal memoranda on statutes and rules which impact the Technical Advisor's assigned area of expertise.:Provides legal advice on proposed guidelines for the training of new and existing staff, including but not limited to OneNet trainings and law bulletins concerning new statutory or regulatory provisions or new case law within the Technical Advisor's area of expertise.:Advises and meets with the Chief Legal Counsel and Senior Command to provide for the evaluation of proposed operational or workflow process changes. :Makes recommendations to the Chief Legal Counsel and Senior Command regarding changes to relevant work unit operations and workflow processes.:Ensures recommendations consider acceptable risk tolerance and are within the parameters of existing law.:Participates in meetings with the Chief Legal Counsel and Senior Command to provide legal analysis on proposed rules and legislation. :As assigned by the Chief Legal Counsel, prepares suggested amendments to statutes and administrative rules coordinating with the Illinois State Police Office of Governmental Affairs or the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules to recommend and review proposed language.:Provides guidance to work units on program modification when there is new legislation or regulatory requirements.:Manages a litigation portfolio on behalf of the Department as assigned by the Chief Legal Officer involving
