Bikepacking Experience Instructor

Description:
The Bikepacking Experience Instructor provides leadership, support, and mountain bike (MTB) instruction to participants of varying ability levels in a bikepacking trek through the New River Gorge. Assist in the execution of meaningful mountain bike programs for the National High Adventure Base as a means to develop leadership, character, citizenship, and fitness in youth. Principle Responsibilities: Present a bikepacking trek program through cheerful, helpful, and efficient service to all Summit guests. Maintain a friendly and helpful attitude to ensure that participants have a safe and enjoyable experience. Where possible solve their needs and concerns, where not possible, steer them to someone who can. Safely drive the bikepacking trek support vehicle and trailer. Assist in the set up and takedown of the Summit Bechtel Reserve mountain bike trails, and other facilities. Properly inspect, appropriately use, and maintain all mountain bikes, equipment, and supplies. Keep program areas safe, clean, and organized. Ensure the safety of all participants participating in mountain bike activities. Turn accurate paperwork to the supervisor in a timely manner. Adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the Summit Bechtel Reserve Staff Handbook. When not on a trek or assisting with a trek, expected to be a general mountain bike instructor for the mountain biking program. Any other duties as assigned by full-time staff and/or direct supervisor. Qualifications & Training: Be or become a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America 21 y ears old or older Have experience teaching or guiding mountain biking Have experience maintaining mountain bikes Have bikepacking experience Good organizational skills Physical Requirements: Must meet the Summit Bechtel Reserve's high adventure height/weight requirements as laid out in the Summit BSA Health & Medical Record Must be able to lift and handle materials weighing up to 70lbs Must be able to demonstrate proficiency riding a mountain bike Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform SBR blue polo or BSA Field Uniform (Scouts BSA, Venturing, or Sea Scout) Shorts/Pants should be of the appropriate length/size/appropriateness for a Scouting setting. Shoes should be closed-toe, neat, and clean. No wild colors. Housing: 10x12' Platform Tent; Foxtrot Base Camp Staff Area
