Powdered Metal Equipment (Press) Operator Level 1-3 Principle Function: [Level 1-3] Operates compacting presses, sintering furnaces, and press automation. Operates sizing presses and miscellaneous equipment is a plus . Performs equipment adjustments to maintain dimensions, weights, and densities within specification tolerance limits. [Level 2, 3] Perform tooling changeovers and equipment adjustments to attain dimensions [Level 3] Assists in new part development and troubleshooting part production issues. Description of Duties and Work Performed: The following description reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent to the job. Accountabilities: [Level 1-3] Operates compacting press by starting press in continuous operation; observing press function as powder is automatically fed to die, checking ejected parts for proper forming and compression of parts, and placing finished parts in trays. Observe furnace conditions, ensure proper loading of parts & checking parts for proper as sintered condition and any material handling required to move parts to the next operation. Operates sizing press by positioning part to die using tongs or positioning automated material handling equipment which will allow press to perform entire operation automatically. Maintains quality and dimensional characteristics by examining parts for inadequate fill, marks, burrs, galls, etc. The operator must perform dimensional, weight, and green density measurements and record results of inspections on quality control charts. This may lead to the need to make necessary adjustments on process to maintain high quality levels This position involves the need to perform miscellaneous duties such as moving containers of parts to and from presses, emptying smaller containers of parts to bulk containers, moving full trays of parts to conveyors or storage, removing overflow powder from press beds, and supplying powder to presses as needed once a forklift license is attained. [Level 2, 3] Changes press tooling attachments to run alternate parts by releasing bolts, clamps, pins, etc. to remove present tooling. Remove feeder tubes, shoe, upper and lower tooling details, core rods, etc. Clean press tooling surfaces and changing powder if necessary. Read and interpret analysis sheets and setup specifications to obtain tooling information; install alternate tooling by positioning and aligning punches, dies, adapters, keys, backup plates, holders, etc. and realigning punches, dies, adapters, keys, backup plates, holders etc. [Level 3] This position does set up on and develops setting for new & difficult parts. Helps identify and eliminate root cause of quality and production issues on powder metal processes with assistance from engineering and tooling group. This position will be an Area Leader and substitute Supervisor as needed. General: [Level 1-3] This job involves operating and maintaining tooling and equipment settings on all equipment on the equipment for the primary powder metal part production. The job involves operation of several pieces of equipment at the same time depending upon the part being run and the type of automatic loading and unloading equipment being used. The position requires knowledge of operating characteristics of various size presses and the experience in maintaining settings to produce quality parts from varying density materials and having very close tolerance dimensions. The job involves the use of measuring devices such as snap, plug and concentricity gages, scale, micrometers, weigh scale, hand truck, power forklift, carts, and small hand tools. Associate is exposed to grease, dust, and some heat. Must have been at least 180 days since your PT promotion. [Level 2, 3] This job involves changing over, operating, and maintaining tooling and equipment settings on compacting and sizing presses. Operator must be willing to substitute supervise if needed. Attendance must be at 96% or more. Operator must be a good example to other employees and must promote morale and teamwork. Must have been at least one year since your level 1 promotion. [Level 3] Attendance must be 98% or more. Must have been at least 3 years from level 2 promotion. "Stop Line Authority": [Level 1- 3] The position has the authority to stop the production line because of an unsafe situation or quality issue.
