Through its merger with Oil Search, Santos has acquired and assumed operatorship over a world-class portfolio of oil leases on the Alaskan North Slope, USA. Our focus in Alaska is advancement of our Pikka Phase 1 project, which includes a single drill site, an oil processing facility, and other infrastructure to support production of 80,000 barrels of oil per day. Pikka has been identified as being among the top quartile of oil and gas development projects for greenhouse gas emissions performance. Pikka is poised to play an important role in the energy transition and is aligned with our company goal of managing climate change risk. Santos and its partner Repsol has committed the funding for Pikka Phase 1 and is on track to deliver first oil by 2026. The Pikka Unit is one of the largest conventional oil discoveries made in the United States in the last 30 years, and the Pikka Phase 1 Project is the most significant development on Alaska's North Slope in more than 20 years. The permitted Pikka development project includes two additional drill sites. The Alaska assets also include discoveries made from both the Mitquq and Stirrup exploration wells drilled in 2020. These opportunities combine to offer a clear path to long-term growth in Alaska. POSITION PURPOSE Led by the Alaska Senior Commercial Analyst and reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager, the Commercial Analyst is responsible for providing meaningful and accurate economic analysis to identify, evaluate and recommend investment opportunities that add value to Santos.Key criteria for success is to have the resilience and capacity to influence without formal authority key internal and external stakeholders to adopt decision driven economic analysis work-plans.The Commercial Analyst will interface closely with regional and corporate functions and disciplines such as subsurface, HSES, D&C, supply chain, accounting, tax, treasury, insurance and others as appropriate.The Commercial Analyst will also maintain ongoing commercial relationships within the development (including with applicable JV partner, other NS operators, or State of Alaska stakeholders).The Commercial Analyst will provide robust economic analytics and decision framing support across the BU for consideration/selection of strategies and execution optimization. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Ensure the commercial interests of Santos are protected at all times and that potential liabilities are mitigated. Work closely with the BU leadership to develop, communicate and execute the short, medium and long term commercial strategy for Santos. Maintain open communication channels between all functions and disciplines within Alaska and corporate to ensure the cross functional, regional and corporate goals are aligned. Strong economic modeller that can generate reliable results and manage timing expectations, with very limited assistance, across a variety of complex analyses. Sense checks outputs to ensure trustworthy results. Consistently applies economic modelling standards and best practices. Extracts and effectively communicates key insights from complex analyses. Leads economic analysis communication to help bring clarity to project team and decision makers. Able to clearly "tell the story". Challenges project teams to identify gaps prior to reviews. Leads integrated analysis from multidisciplinary technical teams. Understands and sense-checks technical inputs to ensure consistent and realistic assumptions for analysis. Drill into technical concepts, tools and inputs to assess risks and uncertainties and identify opportunities. Gives customers what they need, not what they want. Proactively identifies, communicates, obtains, QCs, and applies information needed. Helps coordinate flow of information from various SMEs and functions and looks for SMEs biases to validate technical merit. Uses third party analogues to benchmark or challenge internal assumptions. Identifies key variables and develops robust set of key sensitivities for uncertainty analysis. Translates outputs to insights to advise negotiations and commercial strategy. Able to effectively select from, and apply, deterministic and probabilistic techniques to generate insights for medium to higher complexity opportunities. Able to lead framing and analysis for standard Value of Information analyses. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Formal Qualifications A Bachelor's and / or Master's degree in geoscience, engineering, business, economics, finance or mathematics. Skills / Competencies A strong commercial and / or business development foundation with a thorough understanding of operating within an exploration and production environment, preferably in a technical capacity. Outstanding cash flow/financial evaluation and modelling expertise, including high levels of competence with Microsoft Excel. Understanding of the upstream oil and gas industry including understanding of Alaskan fiscal regimes. Expert communicator with experience of modelling complex commercial negotiations. Experience in partnering with and influencing highly skilled and capable professionals at senior management level. Exceptional productivity skills with a strong work ethic, and a reputation for the highest degree of integrity and mature business judgment. Thrives in an entrepreneurial environment. Must be an energetic self-starter with a passion for their work. An engaged, "hands on" team player. Highly motivated, and someone who relishes the challenge at hand, this individual will have a strong focus on achievement. Someone who readily generates ideas; shows creativity and ingenuity and provides solutions to solve problems. A very confident professional who constantly raises the bar and presses the organization toward a higher level of achievement. Has little need for close management supervision and direction and is comfortable and effective in an informal operating environment.
